Consequences of fetomaternal haemorrhage after intrauterine transfusion.

Fetomaternal haemorrhage was studied after 68 consecutive fetal intravascular transfusions performed in 20 patients with Rh isoimmunisation. alpha Fetoprotein concentration was assayed in maternal blood taken before, and immediately after each transfusion and three and 24 hours later. An increase of 50% or more in the concentration in any of the samples after transfusion was considered to indic...

Fetomaternal transfusion as a cause of severe fetal anemia causing early neonatal death: a case report.

Fetomaternal hemorrhage refers to the entry of fetal blood into the maternal circulation before or during delivery. Very small amount of fetal red cells are normally detectable in all pregnancies. Massive fetomaternal bleed is very rare and even rarer is the resultant severe anemia causing early neonatal death, despite an uneventful normal pregnancy until the end. Antenatal fetomaternal hemorrh...

Chronic massive fetomaternal hemorrhage: a case report.

We report a case of massive chronic fetomaternal hemorrhage with remarkable fetal compensation. The labor course was complicated by a fetal heart rate pattern showing decreased long- and short-term variability and the eventual development of persistent late decelerations. The fetal scalp blood pH and cord blood pH values were normal. A living male infant was delivered by cesarean section for pe...

Prenatal diagnosis of acute massive fetomaternal hemorrhage.

We present here 2 cases of acute and 2 cases of chronic massive fetomaternal hemorrhage. A sinusoidal fetal heart rate pattern may indicate chronic fetomaternal hemorrhage, but, when increased variability is observed in fetal monitoring, maternal hemoglobin F should be measured to exclude acute fetomaternal hemorrhage.

Antenatal diagnosis of congenital hepatic hemangioma: a case report

Hepatic tumors in children account for only 1 to 5% of all pediatric tumors. Hepatic hemangioma is, however, the third most common tumor of the liver in childhood. We report a case of an antenatal diagnosis of a hepatic tumor detected on a first obstetric ultrasound, at 26(th) week of gestation. It revealed a complex, predominantly solid hepatic lesion with 3 x 3 cm and a marked, essentially pe...
